What is a Pneumatic Solenoid Valve? What is a Pneumatic Solenoid Valve

A pneumatic Solenoid Valve is an industrial device controlled by electromagnetism, which is particularly common in industrial machine control and industrial valves. It can control the direction, flow rate, speed, and other parameters of the medium, thereby achieving control over the opening and closing of the valve. Solenoid valves can be combined with different circuits to achieve the expected control, and they can also ensure the accuracy and flexibility of the control.

The solenoid valve is a basic component of automation used to control fluids and belongs to the actuator. Not limited to hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Solenoid valves are used to control the direction of hydraulic flow. The mechanical equipment in factories is generally controlled by hydraulic steel, so solenoid valves are used.

Inside the solenoid valve, there is a sealed cavity with through holes at different positions. Each through hole leads to a different oil pipe. In the middle of the cavity, there is a valve, and on both sides, there are two electromagnets. When the electromagnetic coil on one side is energized, the valve body will be attracted to that side. By controlling the movement of the valve body, different oil discharge holes will be blocked or leak, while the oil inlet hole is always open. Therefore, hydraulic oil will enter different oil discharge pipes, and then the oil piston will drive the piston rod through oil pressure. In this way, the mechanical movement is controlled by regulating the current of the electromagnet.

As shown in the picture

1What is a Pneumatic Solenoid Valve

The solenoid valve symbol refers to a schematic diagram that describes the function of the solenoid valve. It is usually applied in pneumatic system design and product identification to help pneumatic system designers and solenoid valve users understand the product's functions.

During the design process, it is often necessary to refer to the airway diagram. Various solenoid valves are transformed into their corresponding pneumatic symbols and appear on the drawings. This representation method is known as the solenoid valve symbol.

2What is a Pneumatic Solenoid Valve

The "----way" mentioned earlier depends on how many working states the valve has. It can be said to be the ----way. If there are symbols for pneumatic components, it will be easier to understand. The number of squares (with arrows or T lines inside) representing the valve body on the symbol is the digit.

The "------- position " at the end represents the number of points on one of the squares (the points where the arrow line and the T line intersect), which is the ------- position.

The meaning of the graphic symbol of the solenoid valve:

1. Use boxes to indicate the working position of the valve. The number of boxes indicates the number of "positions".

2. The arrows within the box indicate that the oil circuit is connected, but the direction of the arrows does not necessarily represent the actual direction of the liquid flow.

3. The symbols "┻" or "┳" within the box indicate that the path is blocked.

4. The number of interfaces connected to the outside of the box indicates the number of "connections".

5. Generally, the oil inlet/air inlet where the valve is connected to the oil supply line or air line of the system is represented by the letter p. The return oil/return air port where the valve is connected to the system's return oil/air circuit is denoted by t (sometimes o). The oil port/air port connecting the valve to the actuator is indicated by a, b, etc. Sometimes, the "l" is used in graphic symbols to represent the oil leakage port.

6. All directional control valves have two or more working positions, one of which is the normal position, that is, the position where the valve core is not subjected to operating force.

The median in the graphic symbol is the normal position of the three-digit valve. A two-position valve that uses spring reset takes the state of the passage within the box close to the spring as its normal position. When drawing the system diagram, the oil circuit/gas circuit should generally be connected to the normal position of the directional control valve.

The representation methods of solenoid valve symbols in different application industries:

1. Process industry

On the flowchart (PID diagram) with control points in the process industry, the graphic symbol of the solenoid valve is shown in Figure 1.

3Figure 1 shows the solenoid valve symbol on the PID diagram

Figure 1 shows the solenoid valve symbol on the PID diagram

2. Machinery industry

In the mechanical industry or in the pneumatic and hydraulic transmission systems of mechatronics, the graphic symbols used are shown in Figure 2, a schematic diagram of the graphic symbols of a two-position three-way solenoid valve arranged vertically and left-right.

Note: The upper and lower boxes are not two separate cavities but respectively represent the states when powered on and when not powered on. The upper box (the left box) indicates the direction and port of fluid flow when powered on, while the lower box (the right box) indicates the direction and port of fluid flow when not powered on.

This dual-state drawing method depicts the pipeline connection without electricity, that is, in the box below (the box on the right).

The numbers 1, 2 and 3 in the figure are marked using both domestic and international common numerical notation, as well as alphabetic notation.

Specific markings: The air inlet is 1 or P, the exhaust port is 5 or R, the exhaust port is 3 or S, the working port is 2 or A, and the working port is 4 or B. There are also 12, 14, 82 and 84 ports that belong to the leading part.

The boxes in the symbol represent the working position of the solenoid valve. The number of boxes indicates the number of "positions". The arrows within the box indicate that the fluid is in a connected state, but the direction of the arrows does not necessarily represent the actual direction of the fluid.

The T-shaped symbol in the box indicates that the path is blocked. The number of interfaces connected to the outside of the box indicates the number of "connections".

The commonly mentioned "two-person two-way", "two-person three-way", "two-person four-way", and "two-person five-way" are all derived from the above.

Directional control valves all have two or more working positions, among which one is the normal position, that is, the position where the valve plug is not subjected to operating force. The middle position in the graphic symbol of the solenoid valve is the normal position of the three-position valve.
