A brief description of solenoid valve types

1. Direct-acting solenoid valve

Principle: When powered on, the electromagnetic coil generates electromagnetic force to lift the closing member from the valve seat, opening the valve. When the power is cut off, the electromagnetic force disappears, and the spring presses the closing member onto the valve seat, closing the valve.

Features: It can operate normally under vacuum, negative pressure and zero pressure conditions, but the diameter of the passage generally does not exceed 25mm.

Ii. Step-by-step direct-acting Solenoid valve

Principle: It is a combination of direct-acting and pilot-operated principles. When there is no pressure difference between the inlet and the outlet, upon energification, the electromagnetic force directly lifts the pilot small valve and the main valve closure member upward in sequence, opening the valve. When the inlet and outlet reach the starting pressure difference, after being powered on, the electromagnetic force operates the small valve. The pressure in the lower chamber of the main valve rises and the pressure in the upper chamber drops, thereby using the pressure difference to push the main valve upward. When power is cut off, the pilot valve uses the spring force or the medium pressure to push the closing member downward, thus closing the valve.

Iii. Pilot-operated Solenoid Valve

Principle: When powered on, the electromagnetic force opens the pilot hole, causing the pressure in the upper chamber to drop rapidly. This creates a pressure difference with a lower top and a higher bottom around the closing member. The fluid pressure pushes the closing member upward, opening the valve. When the power is cut off, the spring force closes the pilot hole. The inlet pressure rapidly forms a pressure difference with a lower bottom and a higher top around the closing member through the bypass hole. The fluid pressure pushes the closing member downward to close the valve.
