Finger cylinder (pneumatic finger or air claw) can realize various grasping functions, is the key part of the modern manipulator, often used to grasp the workpiece on the packaging industry, food industry equipment.
I. The purpose of the finger cylinder
Pneumatic fingers, also known as pneumatic gripper or air claw, are powered by compressed air and are used to pinch or grab the workpiece. Originated in Japan, it has been widely used by domestic automation enterprises.
According to the style usually can be divided into Y type pinch finger and flat type pinch finger. Cylinder diameters are divided into 16mm, 20mm, 25mm,32mm and 40MM. Its main function is to replace the human grasp work, can effectively improve the production efficiency and work safety. SMC pneumatic finger series is one of the most commonly used pneumatic clamping device in the industrial field.

II. The selection factors of finger cylinder (air claw)
1) Select parallel open-close type(MHZ2-20D,MHZL2-16D,MHL-16D) or fulcrum open-close type(MHC2-16D,MHC2-20D) according to the size, shape, quality and purpose of the workpiece;
2) Select the series of finger cylinder (air claw) according to the size, shape, outreach, use environment and use purpose of the workpiece;
3) Select the size of the air claw according to the air claw clamping force, the distance of the clamping point, the outreaching amount and the stroke;
4) More options can be made according to the requirements.
III. The features of finger cylinder (air claw)
1) All the structures of the finger cylinder are double-acting, which can realize two-way grasping, automatically align, with high repetition accuracy;
2) Constant grasping moment;
3) Grooves on both sides of the cylinder for magnetic switches;
4) Various installation and link methods
IV. The working principle of finger cylinder (air claw)
The working principle diagram of the finger cylinder is shown below

When port A inlet and Port B exhaust, the cylinder piston rod 1 is extended and rotates around the lever shaft 8 through lever 2, driving two fingers 4 to make straight outward movement on the guide rail 5 through a set of steel ball 3. The two fingers will open and release the workpiece. Stop block 6 to limit finger spread stroke, locating pin 7 to ensure good alignment of linear guide rail.
